We recently got a chance to check out the new Tron ride at Disney’s Magic Kingdom! The ride’s aesthetic is very true to the latest movie. As a fan of the movies and the old video game, it was exciting to finally realize the lifelong dream of riding a light cycle on “the grid”.
The ride was a bit different than most in that you rode it as if you were riding a racing motorcycle – face down. It’s definitely not designed for the larger amongst us. You were secured in the ride from the back and had to hold on to handgrips in front of you. This is part of the reason you need to store all your belongings in a locker before riding. If for some reason you can’t ride in the anticipated position, they did have a more accessible cars at the end of some of the trains of cars.
The ride is themed as a race, so as you’re shooting around the course, you’re in a simulated competition with another group of cycles. Hopefully, you’ll manage to win your race as we did.
Luckily for us, the ride designers were a bit more considerate when building this ride than they were with Guardians of the Galaxy. There was no motion sickness for any of us, despite it being fast with some exciting twists and turns.
Leading up to and leaving the ride, be sure to check out the exhibits that let you get up close and personal with the futuristic technology! I hope you enjoy it as much as we did.
