So much history
The city is thought to have been founded in 753 BC and the resulting empire lasted over a thousand years! Sometimes it seems like all of modern human history revolves around Rome. Partly due to its location, its conquests and subsequent downfall, it’s hard to tell a story of the ancient world that doesn’t involve Rome. There’s simply no place on Earth that fascinates the wannabe historian in me more.
Museo
Walking through Rome is like being in an open air museum. The historical elements weave in and out of the modern city in amazing ways. It’s so charming to see the classic Vespas and adorable micro-cars swerving through the mayhem that is Roman traffic, with ancient history as the backdrop. The list of landmarks and monuments in the city is honestly mind boggling.

Buon cibo. Buon vino. Buon amici!
No place in the world has better food than Italy, so of course Rome is at the heart of it. I like to say “I want dinner in Italy and dessert in France”.
I’m a huge pizza fan, so of course Italy is heaven for me. Just don’t ask them to put pineapple on it or you might be deported. Rome has their own style of pizza, which comes in two forms. Unlike Neopolitan style, it doesn’t have a formal protected definition, so you will find several variants, but they’re all yummy. The first common form is a thin crispy crust, the second is more of a focaccia style crust, but not as greasy as a typical American deep-dish. I’m told that pizza is more of a street food in Rome, so it’s considered a notch below their true love – pasta!
Most Italian people I know would rather die than give up their pasta. I have to say I agree! From Lasagna, to Fettuccini Alfredo to Spaghetti Carbonara, you simply can’t go wrong!
I personally like to pair my pasta with a nice Chianti, considered as a basic table wine, but I prefer it because of it’s light heartedness. Not too strong, not too dry. Just right 🙂
